March 21: ‘Shining a Light on Government,’ a Leadership Breakfast with Richard Belcher

March 21, 2019 @ 7:30 am - 9:15 am

Sunshine Week 2019 is celebrated from March 10-16 to highlight the benefits of government transparency and the risks of unnecessary secrecy in government.

Government transparency has long been a policy mainstay of the Georgia Public Policy Foundation, which marks Sunshine Week every year by highlighting an issue where citizens deserve to have the light shone on government.

You’re invited to “Shining a Light on Government,” an 8 a.m. Leadership Breakfast hosted by the Georgia Public Policy Foundation at the Georgian Club on Thursday, March 21. The speaker is Richard Belcher, veteran investigative reporter and anchor at WSB-TV, who has earned a reputation for hard-hitting coverage of government and government accountabiity.

This Leadership Breakfast, which is open to the public, is $30 to attend. Register at Eventbrite by Tuesday, March 19, or make your check out to Georgia Public Policy Foundation (memo: Sunshine Week) and mail to 3200 Cobb Galleria Parkway, Suite 214, Atlanta GA 30339.

About Richard Belcher: Belcher joined Channel 2 Action News in February 1990 with 18 years of broadcast experience. Previously, he was a full-time investigative reporter and 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. anchor with WAGA-TV for 15 years, and before that he worked at WXIA-TV and WGST Radio. A graduate of Georgia State University with a BBA in Marketing, Belcher is married to Sally Sears, a former reporter at WSB-TV.

About Sunshine Week: Created in 2005, this annual celebration of the national initiative for open government and freedom of information takes place in March and is sponsored by the American Society of News Editors and Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press.

About the Georgia Public Policy Foundation: Established in 1991, the Foundation is an independent, state-focused think tank that proposes market-oriented approaches to public policy to improve the lives of Georgians. Visit our website at georgiapolicy.org.
