Dodd November Is National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month: Alzheimer’s is the most common form of dementia, a general term for memory loss and other intellectual abilities serious enough to interfere with daily life. Alzheimer’s disease, which is progressive, accounts for 50 to 80 percent of dementia cases. An estimated 5.2 million Americans of all ages have Alzheimer’s disease in 2013. This includes about 5 million people age 65 and older and about 200,000 younger than age 65 who have younger-onset Alzheimer’s.
