Charter Petition Workshops

The Georgia Department of Education will host several charter petition workshops entitled “A Public School of Your Own” during National Charter Schools Week, May 2-7. These workshops are intended for individuals or groups who have little knowledge or experience with charter schools, who may be interested in starting, having their child attend, financially supporting, volunteering at or serving on the governing board of a charter school.

National Charter Schools Week is intended to highlight the successes of charter schools and increase public awareness of the charter schools program. Senator Johnny Isakson is an honorary co-chair of the 2005 National Charter Schools Week.

Workshops are sponsored by the Georgia Department of Education. You must register in advance on-linehere. The $12.00 registration fee covers the cost of a light meal.

The workshop will occur in the following sites:

May 2, from 5:00-9:00 p.m. at the Richmond County Board of Education in Augusta, GA

May 3, from 5:00-9:00 p.m. at the Coastal Georgia Center in Savannah, GA

May 5, from 5:00-9:00 p.m. at the Houston County Board of Education in Perry, GA

May 7, from 9:00a.m.-2:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Airport North in Atlanta, GA
