Atlanta – Join Eric Cochling, vice president of Policy Development at the Georgia Center for Opportunity, and Atlanta Journal-Constitution columnist Kyle Wingfield at the Foundation’s 8 a.m. Leadership Breakfast, “Georgia Legislative Roundup,” on Wednesday, March 26, at Cobb County’s Georgian Club.

The discussion will focus on the 2014 Georgia Legislative Session and the General Assembly’s business on tap for 2015, including reforms in education choice and funding, pension reform, transportation funding, Medicaid expansion, tax reform, tort reform, criminal justice, and foster care.

About the panelists:

Eric Cochling is vice president of Policy Development at the Georgia Center for Opportunity, responsible for managing the Center’s public policy team and representing the organization at forums, conferences, legislative hearings and public speeches.

The Lawrenceville resident is a licensed attorney in the State of Georgia who received his bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Georgia, where he graduated magna cum laude. He received a juris doctorate and master’s degree in public administration from Georgia State University. Eric serves as Co-Chair of the Individual Rights Section of the State Bar of Georgia and represents the Georgia Center for Opportunity on the Governor’s Office Human Trafficking Task Force. His analysis of the Georgia Charter Schools Commission law was published in the John Marshall Law Review and he is frequently interviewed, published and quoted by Georgia media outlets.

Before joining the Center, Cochling was in private practice for eight years. Prior to going into private practice, he worked for a short time at a Washington, D.C., think tank and as a legislative aide to then-Minority Leader Bob Irvin in the Georgia State House of Representatives.

Kyle Wingfield joined The Atlanta Journal-Constitution as an opinion columnist in May 2009. Before then, the Dalton native spent 4-1/2 years as an editorial-page writer for The Wall Street Journal based in Brussels, Belgium. In Europe, Wingfield wrote editorials and columns about topics including international trade, antitrust cases, the telecommunications and aerospace industries, energy and environmental policy, British politics and Russia. Prior to that, he worked as a reporter for the Associated Press in Atlanta and Montgomery, Ala., where he wrote about education, courts and general-interest stories.

Wingfield is a 2001 graduate of the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication, recipient of the college’s John E. Drewry Young Alumnus Award and was one of the six finalists for the 2013 international Bastiat Award, awarded by the Reason Foundation.
